MIT SUD Ventures Bootcamp: Day 3

Updated: Jan 20

The intensity of this experience is something else entirely. It feels like 30 days of growth, learning, and challenges compressed into just three—but that’s exactly how it’s designed. By definition, a bootcamp is "a short, intensive, and rigorous course of training" or "a short but very difficult program that helps people become much better at something in a short period of time."

This program isn’t supposed to be easy—it’s meant to challenge us, stretch us, and help us discover resilience and capabilities we might not have known we had. Without this level of intensity, we wouldn’t be pushed to grow in ways that prepare us for long-term success.

Essential Knowledge of the Day: Keep Showing Up

An abstract and uplifting illustration with soft, flowing shapes in pastel hues of light blue, yellow, and white. Radiant beams of light emerge from the center, creating a sense of hope and positivity. The phrase "Keep Showing Up" is prominently displayed in a modern, airy font, blending seamlessly into the ethereal background. The design evokes encouragement, perseverance, and inspiration.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking with Kelly J. Clark, MD, MBA—a leader and, dare I say, mentor I deeply admire. Toward the end of our conversation, I took a moment to express my gratitude for the incredible experiences and connections I’ve been fortunate to have, both here at bootcamp and in other professional and personal settings.

Her response hit me hard: “It’s because you keep showing up.”

Those simple words carried profound truth. The opportunities I’ve had didn’t fall into my lap by chance. They happened because I made a conscious choice, time and again, to show up—to the work, to the challenges, to the people, and to the moments where I could learn and grow.

So here I am. It’s 6:30 a.m. on Day 4, and I’m writing this post—not because I feel particularly energized (trust me, I’d rather be sleeping) but because I’m committed to showing up.

Today will be tough. It’ll be long, challenging, and exhausting as my team and I prepare for our end-of-program pitch. But I know it will also be worth every second.

Why I Keep Showing Up

I’m showing up for a lot of reasons:

  • To learn: I want to absorb as much as I can from this experience and the incredible people around me.

  • To grow: Each challenge is an opportunity to develop my skills and mindset.

  • To support my team: We’re in this together, and my commitment to them is unwavering.

  • To contribute: I hope my knowledge and experiences can add value to others.

But most importantly, I’m showing up because I believe in the work. I believe in the mission of transforming the substance use disorder space and creating innovations that matter. This isn’t just a career or a program—it’s a calling.

The Takeaway

Kelly’s words will stick with me long after this bootcamp ends. “Keep showing up” isn’t just advice for this program; it’s advice for life. Whether we’re exhausted, uncertain, or facing an uphill battle, the simple act of showing up—again and again—is often what makes the difference.

So, here’s my promise: I’ll keep showing up—not just today, but tomorrow, and every day after that.

For the work, for the mission, and for the people who inspire me to be better.

Let’s go, Day 4. I’m ready for you.
